Rock-muusika suunanäitajad

Brittide tõus

Briti popmuusika elavnes 1960. aastail. Ameerikast pärit rock’n’roll’i, rhythm and blues’i ning kohaliku skiffle’i koosmõjust sündis kaks põhilist muusikasuunda:

Mersey beat. Biitlid

Mersey beat’i iseloomustab eelkõige lihvitud mitmehäälne vokaalpartii, muusika ja sõnade autoriteks olid ansambli liikmed.

Rock’n’roll’ile iseloomulik kolmeduuri­harmoonia asendus keerulisemate järgnevustega, tekitades täiesti uudse kõlapildi. Pillidest tõusis olulisele kohale rütmikitarr ning iseloomulikuks sai basskitarri ja basstrummi partii sünkroonne liikumine.

Tuntuimad esindajad: The Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers.

The Beatles vallutas ühiskonna

Ansambli The Beatles teene oli see, et rock-muusikat hakati tunnistama kõigis ühiskonna­kihtides Briti parla­mendi ja kuningakojani välja.

Ühest küljest seetõttu, et osa nende hilisemast loomingust (näiteks laul „Yesterday“) oli vastuvõetav ka vanemale kuulajaskonnale, osalt aga seepärast, et niivõrd populaarset ansamblit polnud poliitiliselt kasulik ignoreerida.

Briti rhythm and blues. Rollingud

Briti rhythm and blues’i lipulaeva ansambli The Rolling Stones juured peituvad Ameerika rhythm and blues’is.

Biitlite lugusid võib paigutada ka popmuusika alla, rollingute puhul on aga tegemist kindlasti rock-muusikaga. Nende muusika on jõuline, kitarrihelid moondatud ja vokaal ähvardav, sünge ning bluusilikult kirglik.

Biitlid olid rõhutatult korrektse välimusega, rollingud seevastu jätsid endast teadlikult lohaka ja mässumeelse mulje.

Tuntumad esindajad peale ansambli The Rolling Stones on veel ansamblid The Animals, The Who, solist Rod Stewart jt.

The Rolling Stones

Stuudios ja kontserdilaval

Ansambli The Beatles liikmed John Lennon ja Paul McCartney asetasid hiljem rõhu loomingule ja stuudiotööle.

The Rolling Stones eesotsas mõjuvõimsa laulja Mick Jaggeriga on aga läbi aegade olnud edukas kontserdilavadel. Nende ringreisid on rock’i-maailma aasta tähtsündmus. 1998. aastal tõi turnee „Bridges of Babylon“ ansambli ka Tallinnasse.
