It’s Not Only About Romantic Love
“For me, friends are (0) the most important people in my life,” says Taru, a woman living in Helsinki. According her, friends been there forever and are a central part her social life. While in many countries February 14 is seen a celebration of romantic love, people in Finland Estonia also honour friendships on this day.
The holiday began in Finland the 1980s and made its way to Estonia by the end of the decade. first, Friend’s Day was celebrated school children, but it soon became popular adults as well. What is more, it is now second most popular card giving holiday in Finland. As for Estonia, is said the holiday is getting bigger bigger.
“I’m so glad Valentine’s Day is Friend’s Day in Finland,” Taru says. “There are no other holidays recognise that your friends are as important your family or romantic relationships.”
