Listen and read.

If you regularly spend time on social media[explanation: social media [ˌsəʊʃ(ə)l ˈmiːdiə] – sotsiaalmeedia], you will meet a lot of people with very different personalities[explanation: personality [ˌpɜːs(ə)nˈæləti] – isiksus]. Here are some of the most common[explanation: common [ˈkɒmən] – tavaline, levinud] types of social media users[explanation: user [ˈjuːzə(r)] – kasutaja]. Do any of them remind[explanation: remind [rɪˈmaɪnd] – meenutama, meelde tuletama] you of anyone that you know? Maybe even yourself?!

The Show-Off[explanation: show-off [ˈʃəʊɒf] – kiitleja, poosetaja]

Every post[explanation: post [pəʊst] – postitus; postitama] of the Show-Off makes his or her life appear[explanation: appear [əˈpɪə(r)] – paistma] more fun, more exciting[explanation: exciting [ɪkˈsaɪtɪŋ] – põnev, erutav], and just plain[explanation: plain [pleɪn] – täiesti] better than yours. It’s impossible[explanation: impossible [ɪmˈpɒsəb(ə)l] – võimatu] to compete[explanation: compete [kəmˈpiːt] – võistlema] with Show-Offs! If you’re feeling good, then they’re feeling great. If you get a skateboard[explanation: skateboard [ˈskeɪtbɔːd] – rula], then they get hoverboards[explanation: hoverboard [ˈhɒvəbɔːd] – hõljuklaud]. If you went to Antarctica, they would probably go to the Moon!

The Oversharer[explanation: oversharer [ˌəʊvəˈʃeərə(r)] – üleliia jagaja]

Oversharers flood[explanation: flood [flʌd] – siin: pommitama; üle ujutama] you with messages[explanation: message [ˈmesɪdʒ] – sõnum], where they express[explanation: express [ɪkˈspres] – väljendama] every random[explanation: random [ˈrændəm] – juhuslik, suvaline] thought[explanation: thought [θɔːt] – mõte] that passes through their heads. Unfortunately[explanation: unfortunately [ʌnˈfɔːtʃ(ə)nətli] – kahjuks] for you, most of these thoughts are simply[explanation: simply [ˈsɪmpli] – lihtsalt] annoying[explanation: annoying [əˈnɔɪɪŋ] – tüütu, ärritav]! Do you need to be told that chocolate tastes[explanation: taste [teɪst] – maitsma] great?! Do you really want to know how the new Star Wars movie ends?! Of course not!

The Addict[explanation: addict [ˈædɪkt] – sõltlane]

Addicts are the social media users that you’re most likely[explanation: likely [ˈlaɪkli] – tõenäoline; tõenäoliselt] to notice[explanation: notice [ˈnəʊtɪs] – märkama] out in the real world. They would go crazy[explanation: go* crazy [ɡəʊ ˈkreɪzi] – hulluks minema] if they were unable[explanation: unable [ʌnˈeɪb(ə)l] – võimetu] to go online for even a minute! No doubt[explanation: no doubt [nəʊ daʊt] – kahtlemata, pole kahtlust(ki)] you’ve seen these people just stare at[explanation: stare (at) [steə(r) ət] – üksisilmi vaatama, jõllitama, vahtima] their phones, completely[explanation: completely [kəmˈpliːtli] – täiesti] unaware[explanation: unaware [ˌʌnəˈweə(r)] – mitteteadlik] of their surroundings[explanation: surroundings [səˈraʊndɪŋz] – ümbrus]. You’ve even been an Addict yourself once[explanation: once [wʌns] – kord] or twice[explanation: twice [twaɪs] – kaks korda]! If you try to deny[explanation: deny [dɪˈnaɪ] – eitama] it, then you’re a LIAR[explanation: liar [ˈlaɪə(r)] – valetaja]!!! Just kidding![explanation: Just kidding! [dʒʌst ˈkɪdɪŋ] – Tegin nalja!] Don’t worry[explanation: worry [ˈwʌri] – muretsema], you’re not being trolled[explanation: troll [trəʊl], [trɒl] – internetitroll; trollima]! Though[explanation: though [ðəʊ] – kuigi, siiski] now that we mention[explanation: mention [ˈmenʃ(ə)n] – mainima] trolling, that leads us to …

The Troll

The Troll is a truly[explanation: truly [ˈtruːli] – tõesti] nasty[explanation: nasty [ˈnɑːsti] – vastik] person! Trolls go out of their way[explanation: go* out of one’s way [ɡəʊ aʊt əv wʌnz weɪ] – nahast välja pugema, suurt vaeva nägema] to create[explanation: create [kriˈeɪt] – tekitama] trouble[explanation: trouble [ˈtrʌb(ə)l] – pahandus, tüli] online for their own amusement[explanation: amusement [əˈmjuːzmənt] – lõbustus, meelelahutus]. They often say something mean[explanation: mean [miːn] – õel, kuri] or controversial[explanation: controversial [ˌkɒntrəˈvɜːʃ(ə)l] – vastuoluline, vaidlust tekitav] just to provoke[explanation: provoke [prəˈvəʊk] – provotseerima, esile kutsuma] an angry reaction[explanation: reaction [riˈækʃ(ə)n] – reaktsioon]. For example, a Troll might comment[explanation: comment [ˈkɒment] – kommenteerima] that you look fat in your pictures, or say that a song you really love is terrible[explanation: terrible [ˈterəb(ə)l] – kohutav]; and if you like it, you’re an idiot. If you encounter[explanation: encounter [ɪnˈkaʊntə(r)] – kohtama] Trolls, then the best thing that you can do is to ignore[explanation: ignore [ɪɡˈnɔː(r)] – eirama, ignoreerima] them. Arguing[explanation: argue [ˈɑːɡjuː] – vaidlema] with a Troll will only make things worse.

The Newbie[explanation: newbie [ˈnjuːbi] – algaja]

Newbies are new on social media, and they usually have no idea[explanation: have* no idea [hæv nəʊ aɪˈdɪə] – mitte vähimatki aimu olema] what they’re doing! Newbies are experts at embarrassing[explanation: embarrass [ɪmˈbærəs] – piinlikku olukorda panema] people, and they do it a lot! If they aren’t embarrassing themselves BY WRITING EVERYTHING WITH THE CAPS LOCK ON, then they’re embarrassing you by commenting on how grown-up[explanation: grown-up [ˌɡrəʊn ˈʌp] – täiskasvanud] you look in your pictures! Or even worse, posting your baby photos!!!

The True Friend

Many of the people that we call ‘friends’ on social media aren’t really our friends. Some of them are just people that we meet once and then never see or hear from again! But the True Friend needs no explanation[explanation: explanation [ˌekspləˈneɪʃ(ə)n] – seletus, selgitus]. True Friends are not Show-Offs, Oversharers or Trolls – though they may be Newbies or Addicts! If you’re happy, they click like, and if you’re sad, they leave you messages of support[explanation: support [səˈpɔːt] – toetus, toetus-]. They are with you through good times and bad. They are your true friends!
